Care & Support at Home
People need care at home for many different reasons.
Care that fits around the person
Someone may need a little help once or twice a week, perhaps with a shower, medication, a meal or some company. Another person may need several visits throughout the day, support following a hospital stay or more involved care as their health and abilities change.
You don't need to decide which type of care fits your situation before contacting us. These pages explain some of the different ways Abbey Care can help, and you can always call us to talk through what is happening.
Personal Care & Support at Home
Help with washing, bathing, dressing, toileting, continence and other aspects of personal care, as well as mobility and everyday routines. We provide the amount of help the person needs while encouraging them to continue doing what they can for themselves.
Palliative & End-of-Life Care
Personal and day-to-day care at home towards the end of life, for as long as that is right for the person. We can work alongside community nurses, hospice teams and other healthcare professionals, providing care that responds as the person’s needs change while respecting their wishes and the things that are important to them.
Companionship & Independence
Sometimes the main thing someone needs is company, a familiar face or some support to continue doing the things they enjoy. Visits can be spent together at home or out and about – perhaps shopping, going for a walk, attending an appointment or having lunch somewhere.
Dementia Care
Care at home for people living with dementia, based around the individual rather than expecting one approach to work for everyone. Our care workers get to know the person, their routines and what works well for them, while remaining alert to changes or concerns that may need following up.
Eating & Drinking Support
Eating and drinking well can become more difficult for all sorts of reasons.
Care workers can help with meals and drinks, but the support isn’t just about putting food on a plate. We get to know what the person likes, what they are able to do and what makes eating and drinking easier for them.
Respite Care
Regular or occasional care to give a family carer time away, whether that is for an appointment, work, an afternoon out or a particular occasion. Respite visits can include companionship, outings, personal care, meals, medication and other agreed support.
Not sure which kind of care you need?
You don't need to fit your situation neatly into one of these categories.
A client may receive several different kinds of support as part of the same care package, and the care can change over time.
If you're considering care and would like to talk through the options, give us a call. A Manager or one of our Care Coordinators can listen to what is happening, answer your questions and explain how Abbey Care may be able to help.
If you decide you would like to explore care further, we can arrange a free, no-obligation assessment.
